Hedley purchase EO Form Machine

In February 2011 we bought another EO Form machine to compliment the installation engineers. This unit is used as a ‘portable’ on-site tube former. As with all EO2 Plus it is designed to eliminate leakage in all fluid systems, by using elastomeric sealing systems. The EO Form machine manipulates the tube to provide a cold formed shoulder, particularly useful where bite type fittings are not popular. EO Form tube forming is faster and easier, no special tube treatment, chemicals or heating is required.

Solidworks Upgrade

The Solidworks 2011 upgrade has recently been installed within the Hedley Hydraulics System Design team software packages. Hedley have been operating Solidworks for nearly three years, and the benefits are clear to see. This design package comes with some excellent enhancements, assisting in accurate dimensional drawing. Solidworks 2011 provides our team with effective and efficient information, communicated clearly, so we can pre-empt potential problems. This in turn allows makes workshop fabrication, build, test and commissioning so much more productive. With productivity inside improved, we can meet our customer’s tight deadlines even more effectively.

We win major contract with Monobuoy Sarl

Hedley Hydraulics have just won a major contract to upgrade a Winch system for Monobuoy Sarl.

In 2009 Hedley were invited to carry out an inspection of the DSPM winch system on board the Four Vanguard. The system comprises of three 165-tonne winches working in unison to lift the mooring buoy on board the vessel, at the time of the inspection the system was very nearly inoperable and subject to massive hydraulics leaks.

Hedley Hydraulics, working in conjunction with Monobuoy Sarl, put forward a proposal to fully overhaul the winch hydraulic control system, simplifying the system, and introducing modular manifold controls in order to reduce the pipework connections. The work on the winches was carried out during the vessels scheduled dry-docking at the Keppel shipyard in Singapore, the modifications were fully tested in dock to the satisfaction of the ABS inspectorate. The vessel returned to the production site in Western Australia, in early 2010, Hedley personnel were on hand to witness the DSPM connection. Other works carried out on the vessel include, ancillary crane installation, commissioning of the well-head control hydraulics, and general hydraulic repairs.

Hull Flood Barrier Defense

As a dedicated Hydraulic Technology Centre we are working with the UK Environmental Agency to work on the Hull Flood Barrier Defense system. We completed an integrated pipe work installation and bund arrangement as part of the facilities upgrade to a hydraulic control. Hedley needed to install the pipe work alongside a multi disciplined team of suppliers for this project working to tight delivery schedules to ensure that the Flood Barrier was operational with the minimum downtime period.

The integration of the pipe work system by Hedley Hydraulics needed to be to exacting standards, time based and closely project managed. Working closely with the Mechanical & Engineering Design authority, the Hydraulic Power Unit supplier, and Civil contractor, Hedley Hydraulics ensured that the pipework installation and bund arrangement went to pre-agreed deadlines.

With some 1200 meters of hydraulic pipe work installed and a bund holding capacity of 1200 litres of oil should a system failure occur, the Environmental Agency were insistent that no hydraulic leaks should be capable of entering the Humber Estuary resulting in damage to local marine wildlife and the fragile ecosystem in the area. Hedley incorporated into the project Parker’s EO Form, high pressure formed tube system, designed to eliminate leakage when used in fluid systems.

The project was taken in stages, with a full ‘mock up’ of the installation taking place outside Hull, to ensure a smooth transition prior to carrying out the actual installation within the Hull Flood Barrier. Work on the barrier was challenging, all products had to be lifted into place at the top of each tower, Hedley utilised a 3 Dimensional design package to ensure that the design of pipework fully integrated within the building, HPU supplier and of course the structure of the building.

New Contract with British Gypsum

Working in partnership with British Gypsum for over six months led to the re-engineering of the whole lubrication system including manufacture of a brand new lubrication power unit. Supplying measured dosage lubrication to their plaster board production machinery drive chains has meant a large increase in manufacturing capacity and reduced wastage.

The company liked the product so much they have just ordered two further power units.

"We're proud to be working with such a well-known and longstanding company."
